Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby scored his 500th career NHL goal on Tuesday night against the team’s biggest rival, the Philadelphia Flyers.
The goal came midway through the opening frame, with Crosby scoring on a one-timer from Evgeni Malkin. It also marked Crosby’s 50th goal against the Flyers, to throw more fuel on the fire.
Crosby is the 46th player to score 500 goals in NHL history, with Alex Ovechkin being the only other active player to do so with 719. Crosby is typically known for being a stout playmaker, but he did lead the league in goals twice in his career, including a career-high 51 in 2009-10.
Crosby’s resume speaks for itself, with three Stanley Cups, two Conn Smythe’s and two Olympic golds, among various other major NHL accomplishments. Crosby is having yet another fantastic season with 44 points in 37 games as Pittsburgh has battled through injuries and COVID-19 to be a true playoff contender.
