Jussie Smollett pictured in mugshot after being sent to jail for fake hate crime

Jussie Smollet’s mugshot has been revealed after he was found guilty of staging a fake hate crime.

The former Empire star has been sentenced to 150 days in Cook County Jail and 30 months felony probation, ordered to pay restitution of $120,106 and fined $25,000.

He was sentenced in Chicago after being found guilty of five of the six felony counts of disorderly conduct against him for lying to police about being the victim of a racist and homophobic attack.

In 2019, Jussie claimed his assailants struck him in the face, draped a rope around his neck and doused him with an ‘unknown chemical substance’ before they fled.

A month later, he was arrested and accused of paying two brothers £2,600 to orchestrate the attack.

He has been maintaining his innocence since the incident first occurred.

After his sentence was handed, Jussie told the court that he is ‘not suicidal’ and protested his innocence.

He also said that if anything happens to him in jail it would not be because of him.

“Your honour, I respect you and I respect the jury, but I did not do this.” he had told the court.

“And I am not suicidal. And if anything happens to me when I go in there, I did not do it to myself. And you must all know that.”

Cook County Judge James Linn delivered the verdict and called him a ‘charlatan’ and said he has done a lot of damage to those who are real victims of hate crimes.

Judge Linn also called the actor “profoundly arrogant and selfish and narcissistic” for ruining his own life and career.
